Sustainability at Earth Coaching

Sustainability isn’t an afterthought – it’s woven into everything I do.

Earth Coaching is guided by permaculture, mindfulness, and existential philosophy, and reflects a deep ecological ethic both in my life and my coaching practice. It is twofold - the sustainability of the planet and of the people with whom I work!

Permaculture Rooted in Regenerative Living

I eat a plant‑based diet, and even grow much of my own food! I make my own compost from food waste, and source local or fair trade food, mostly organic produce. I’ve been a vegetarian since 2005 and dairy-free since 2022, and my eggs are provided to me by my wonderful hens, who get fed a lot of what I grow on my allotment.

I repurpose and repair, favour second‑hand furniture, make a lot of gifts instead of buying and minimise personal consumption. I make many of my own herbal medicinal remedies and toiletries, or source them from ethical companies. Waste reduction, minimal packaging, recycling, and energy‑wise choices are daily habits.

Regeneration for People & Planet

I work with clients who are neurodivergent, disabled, chronically ill, LGBTQIA+, and from marginalised backgrounds. Many of us are navigating burnout, grief, and trauma – not just from personal hardship but from systems that demand too much and give too little.

My practice is grounded in anti-oppressive values. That means:

  • Accessibility is built in – through low-energy sessions, flexible communication styles, and outdoor or phone-based options that meet people where they are.

  • Belonging matters – I centre clients who are often overlooked or pathologised in traditional services.

  • Power-awareness is part of the work – naming systemic harm, not bypassing it, and helping people resource themselves in ways that are sustainable, not performative.

I believe that personal healing and collective care are interlinked. True sustainability includes rest, dignity, and the right to take up space – especially for those who have been told they must shrink to fit in or be ‘normal’.

Sustainability in my world is about interdependence, not individualism. My work supports people in finding their own rhythms, boundaries and resilience – without pushing for productivity, perfection or self-optimisation. This approach grows from my lived values:

Focused on Nature, Permaculture, Herbalism & Naturopathy

As a coach focused on nature, naturopathy and herbalism, I work with simple outdoor practices and herbs influenced by indigenous, ancestral and traditional medicines alongside naturopathic principles. I cultivate, forage and create small‑batch herbal preparations, and support clients in reconnecting with plant‑based care grounded in reciprocity, respect and regeneration.

This isn’t extractive medicine — it’s relationship‑based, holistic and sustainable in every sense.

Low‑Impact Travel & Low‑Carbon Working

I travel on foot, by cycle or by public transport whenever possible. My electric car is rarely used — mainly to transport heavy items like my gazebo and equipment to events. In terms of my business miles, I never fly and rarely travel outside of my county and surrounding areas.

The address in the footer of my website is a mailbox address for receiving any correspondence, not an office. I don’t rent an extra office space here in Southend-on-Sea to work from. This avoids the energy use and emissions associated with heating, lighting and powering a separate workspace like a shop, office, or surgery would create. It also keeps my environmental impact lean and intentional. My home office is in my living space, improved with enhanced insulation, efficient lighting and efficient heating to lower its EPC rating. I choose used or repurposed furnishings wherever possible.

My sessions take place either in person in local outdoor spaces around Southend-on-Sea or online from my home office – I don’t travel outside my area for my regular work.

I only print materials when absolutely necessary and always try to avoid unnecessary waste.

An Independent, Local & Community‑Centred Business In Southend-on-Sea

Earth Coaching is a one‑person practice. I don’t outsource to large agencies or big firms, generate unnecessary digital content, produce physical products, or use mass-produced content. My work remains personal, grounded, community-focused, direct and values‑led. Earth Coaching collaborates with a few other one-person businesses, who are also ethics-led, inclusive and have a core focus on sustainability and equality, such as Ryan at Pine Creative, Bea at Rise, and Jayne at Typically Diverse.

I serve clients who are neurodivergent, chronically ill, or lgbtq+ and seeking a slower, more sustainable way of life. My coaching helps them to connect with nature, regain control, and live sustainably within their own limits. Many of my clients share my passion for nature and desire to make their work, their lives and the world more sustainable, and this topic is often a focus of our sessions.

Sustainability and Accessibility as a Practice, Not a Label

I’m not interested in “sustainable” as a polished brand. I’m interested in it as a daily, relational, imperfect practice – one that includes the earth, each other, and ourselves. I don’t claim perfection — I simply commit to ongoing learning, refinement and accountability. I’m always learning, adapting and reviewing the way I live and work – not only to reduce harm, but to actively support regeneration, resilience and relational wellbeing. Every decision is filtered through questions: Is this life‑giving? Is this necessary? Is this aligned with Earth? Is this sustainable for me, my clients and the planet?

My sustainability is lived: in the herbs I grow, the way I offer coaching (particularly outdoors) and the daily and seasonal rhythms I follow. If you're looking for a practitioner who just ticks eco-boxes, I’m not the right fit. But if you're looking for someone who cares, commits, and keeps showing up – we might work well together.
