My Neurodiversity & Chronic Illness Story
I am passionate about helping neurodivergent and chronically ill clients to conquer stress, burnout, overwhelm and disorganisation so that they can get back to being in control of their lives. Harnessing the power of nature, I nurture clients back to thriving!
As a neurodivergent, I fully understand and believe in working with both the mind and body, the importance of pacing and the vast benefits of regularly connecting with nature. I’ve seen the immense advantages of working this way when helping ADHD, autistic, AuDHD, dyslexic, dyspraxic, HSP and chronically ill clients to take more control of their lives and when dealing with overwhelm, decision-making, procrastination, burnout, stress and being stuck. I support those with chronic fatigue and chronic pain to have a better quality of life. I’m also LGBTQIA+ and coach folks whose struggles with their identity are affecting their health, energy levels and zest for life!
I am passionate about nature, life-long learning and the arts. Nature has been a big part of my own journey, from coping with chronic illnesses and burnout to now thriving with long-term coping strategies. I began growing my own food on my tiny patio. This has expanded to now having an allotment with hens in Southend-on-Sea, Essex, and eating most of my own produce, including jams, chutney, cordials, eggs, fresh fruit and vegetables! I have found peace in nature to be one of the best ways to cope with sensory overload and stress.
From a young age, I knew I was different from the other children - being slow to complete school work, struggling with spelling and handwriting, and becoming easily distracted. I was diagnosed with dyslexia whilst studying, of all things, a languages degree! I didn’t feel that dyslexia quite explained all of the challenges in my life: extreme fatigue, sensory processing issues, daydreaming, anxiety, hyperfocus and having more hobbies than anyone else! So, I started to read up on conditions that could explain this and AuDHD fitted. Like many neurodiverse folks, I struggled with self-confidence and imposter syndrome throughout childhood and for most of my teens and 20s and never felt good enough. This led me to do four university degrees and a professional diploma before realising I needed to address this issue. Thankfully, now I have many coping strategies to deal with this challenge and now only study because I love to learn!
Leading Expert in Neurodiversity and Chronic Illness Coaching
When I first trained as a coach, I wanted to provide a service to give others the support that I really needed in my 20s but simply did not exist. I now share the knowledge I gained from years of research and lived experience to help other neurodivergent, chronically ill folks. I have also worked with the LGBTQ+ community for over 20 years and continue that work in my Earth Coaching® practice to bring support and safe spaces for trans and queer folks.
Over the years, I became fascinated with the impact that both time in nature and the decluttering and organisation of the home and workplace can have on the mind and body. If you constantly lose things or spend too much time looking for where things are and want to organise your space so that everything has a home where it belongs, then I am the coach for you! I’m currently training as a naturopath and use nature to help manage my own neurodiversity and chronic illnesses.
As an experienced coach with over half a decade of coaching experience, I am now one of the leading UK experts on using nature and permaculture in neurodiversity and chronic illness coaching.
I coach online over Google Meet but also offer immersive outdoor coaching face-to-face or via telephone. The face-to-face outdoor coaching enables you to be coached whilst immersed in nature in the Southend-on-Sea, Leigh-on-Sea, and Hockley areas in Essex. I also offer ‘walk & talk’ nature coaching over the telephone, where you can walk or sit in nature from anywhere in the UK and still get the benefits of being out in nature.
I am an Accredited Coach and full member of The Association for Coaching (AC accreditation and membership number 69279960) and follow their ethics and confidentiality standards. I am fully insured, have my own coach, and regularly participate in coaching supervision and CPD (Continued Professional Development), such as ADHD coaching. What people are saying
-
“I am now feeling much more confident and capable and I'm extremely proud of the difference in what I achieve and my mental health now compared to a year ago. Bex is very patient and understanding, they've born with me while I ramble on in an unfocused way, always helping me come back to a concrete goal and plan of action. I would (and do) 100% recommend Bex for anyone disabled, neurodivergent and/or living with chronic health conditions.”
